Seaside Steam Stories The Quay

Description

Here's a little something I started working on today, an entirely new line for some stories I'm going to try to write. The line is somewhere on the Norfolk coast and may feature heavily fictionalised versions of real life stations. the stories will start in the late 50s.

This is "The Quay" a small but busy port that handles exports from the area and a small passenger station just passed the industrial area. But the main seaside station is a little further up the line.

This line was built in the late 1880s and thrived even after the decline of the railways and was only acquired by BR (the Big Railway) in the late 50s thanks to the owner refusing nationalisation until the day he died. Even though the line was fairly profitable BR quickly decided to close the line cutting off the area's vital links to the ports and the city. A local businessman Mr. Johnston bought the line and rolling stock before it could be scrapped and with a band of volunteers he ran the line to a profit and with the rise of preservation the line's profits steadily grew. Still used by most local people and businesses the line's future seems secure for years to come.

Gerry is the original loco of the line, the old workhorse keeping up the standards of his railway. A gentle but firm engine he has been an old man since the day he was built

Ellie (or Emma, haven't decided yet) the E2 belongs to Mr Johnston, bought from the LB&SCR after a error in the books wrote her off during WWI. A kind little engine Ellie will turn a wheel to most work that comes her way but she is in need of an overhaul and can't always work as well as she'd like.

Peter the Pannier Tank is yet to appear.
